The Wiener Waldhornverein (French Horn Association) is the oldest ensemble of its kind. Their origins reach back to the time of Emperor Franz Joseph I and one of its founding members was Johannes Brahms. The Verein was founded ‘for reasons of conviviality and the preservation of the Waldhorn’. Today its members are comprised of students at Vienna’s music academies and universities, professional musicians from Vienna’s orchestras and non-professional or amateur musicians. Following a very successful tour of Scotland as guests of the Friends of The Vienna Horns of Scotland in 2009, the Wiener Waldhornverein has been invited back once again for a Spring tour in 2010.
