'The Vienna Chamber Diaries' is the UK launch of the new album on Wolfgang Muthspiel’s label Material from one of Austria’s most prolific and versatile young composers, Johannes Berauer.
Featuring a remarkable line-up that includes jazz greats Gwilym Simcock and Klaus Gesing. Successful in both the classical and jazz worlds, Berauer makes a logical step by fusing his two musical souls into one project.
This album masterfully blends subtle chamber music, high-energy improvisation, groove and intricate polyphonic writing. Two different worlds of music filtered through Berauer’s composition, and merged into a beautiful whole as if they had always belonged together. The music has been written (mostly) over the course of a year, marking very personal experiences and reflections – hence the title. Like diary entries each composition paints a unique story for the listener to discover. Therefore each piece called for different instrumentation.
