The (Un)Sayable in Public Discourses about the Past

The workshop brings toether contributions from researchers in the field of discourses about problematic pasts (Holocaust, colonialism, war) in Germany, France and Italy.  More specifically, it looks at discourses about these pasts and at debates about what can and cannot be said about the past, what should or should not be said, and what needs to be said and what may not be said about it.

Speakers include Prof Ruth Wodak (University of Lancaster), Prof Martin Evans (University of Portsmouth), Dr Rebecca Clifford (Swansea University), Prof Bill Niven (Nottingham Trent University), Prof Heidrun Kaemper (Institute for German Language, Mannheim), James Taylor (Imperial War Museum, London), Dr Melani Schroeter (University of Reading).

The workshop is organised by Dr Melani Schroeter (German Studies), Prof Hilary Footitt (Director of AHRC Project "Languages at War"), University of Reading.  The workshop is free, but registration is required.
