Transfigured Moments: Snapshots of the Birth and Death of Romanticism Part I

  • Sun 23 May 2010
  • 7:30PM

This series of three concerts celebrating Viennese music has been conceived by Jenna Sherry and Prach Boondiskulchok, both students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The concerts will explore Viennese chamber and vocal music from two particularly interesting moments of musical and political change and transition: the emergence of musical Romanticism in Vienna and the period when composers of the Second Viennese School deliberately abandoned musical Romanticism in favour of a potent and compact new language.  Taking place in various venues across London, this series will feature masterpieces from these periods in the chamber genres of duo, trio, quartet, and Lieder.

Part I: Transformation of the Voice – A Winter's Journey

Antoine Salmon – Bass-Baritone
Sarah Vander Ploeg – Soprano
Prach Boondiskulchok – Piano
Nanou Harry – Actress

Featuring excerpts from Schubert's Winterreise and Webern's Fünf Lieder Op. 3, this innovative recital will weave an intimate connection between old and new vocal styles, crossing and linking the shared narratives.

The musicians will be joined by actress, Nanou Harry, in the extemporisation of the Winterreise songs, merging the dreams and imaginations of the Winter's Journey with Webern's expressionist miniatures.
