The Lakeside Trio
The final concert explores the Romantic idea of the grand narrative at its beginning and end. Featuring two monumental master pieces: Schönberg's Verklärte Nacht (arr. for piano trio by Eduard Steuermann), written at the very beginning of his career, and one of the swan songs of high romanticism before he introduced 'total chromaticism'. Schubert's Trio in E flat–Written at the very end of Schubert's life and built on cyclic motifs, this trio retains few Classical ideals and can be considered one of Old Vienna’s last landmarks.
