Soundings 2022

  • 1 Nov 2022 — 4 Nov 2022

We are beyond excited to announce a new edition of the popular contemporary music platform Soundings, our cross-cultural exchange, finally returning to London in November this year for an Autumn edition.

Join us for a week of creative collaborations and exchanges, gaining insight into the worlds of new music from the Austrian and UK creative scenes.

Originally initiated in 2004 by the ACF London, Soundings welcomes young composers and musicians from Austria and the UK for four days of open rehearsals, discussions and public performances. A key event for all those interested in new music, performance and cross-border composition.

The project offers a rare opportunity to meet some of today’s leading composers from both countries, watch them at work and hear their latest compositions – many receiving their UK or world premiere – performed by some of the UK’s leading musicians.

This year’s Soundings will feature six exciting talents: Austrian composers Hannah Eisendle, Daniel Oliver Moser, and Roozbeh Nafisi, and UK representatives Litha Efthymiou, Robin Haigh and Bushra El-Turk.
Their works will be rehearsed in workshops open to the public and performed in two evening concerts taking place on Wednesday, 2nd and Thursday, 3rd of November.

A highlight of this year’s programme will be the world premiere of Hannah Eisendle’s new work - grey -, exclusively written for the ACF’s 65th anniversary in 2021.

Featuring Darragh Morgan (violin), Louise McMonagle (cello), Mary Dullea (piano), Richard Jones (viola), Julian Warburton (percussion), Byron Fulcher (trombone), Sirius Chau (flute), David Larkin (violin) and Max Welford (clarinet).

Soundings is curated by pianist Mary Dullea.

Composer and musician Shirley J. Thompson will explore the composers' works in dedicated composer presentations as well as introduce the concerts with insights from the week’s discussions.

Please note: Tickets, fully programme and daily schedules will be available at the beginning of October. Stay tuned!
