Refuge in Films 2011 featuring Exile Family Movie

  • 24 Jun 2011 — 26 Jun 2011

The BFI Southbank will host a three day Refuge in Films Festival to explore issues of displacement, refuge and migration. One of the selected films is by Austrian director Arash T. Riahi. In Exile Family Movie an Iranian family living in political exile decides to organise a meeting with their family still living in Iran. They haven’t seen each other for nearly two decades. Despite all the dangers, the long awaited reunion takes place in Saudi Arabia, in a small hotel room. The family members living in exile pretend to be Muslim pilgrims in order to be allowed to enter the holy cities of Medina and Mecca.
