In Portrait: Beat Furrer

  • Tue 18 Jan 2011

Presented by London Sinfonietta

“Composing would not interest me anymore if I felt I were reproducing an already tested concept and not taking things a step further…” Beat Furrer

The London Sinfonietta offers you the chance to experience one of the most unique soundworlds in modern music, presenting Austrian composer Beat Furrer’s most acclaimed work live in London in the New Year.

Furrer was co-founder of the Austrian contemporary chamber ensemble Klangforum Wien in 1985, yet despite huge success in Europe his own music is rarely performed in the UK. A fascinating mix of drama and fragility, Furrer’s music has the relentless energy and focus of Boulez and the brittle lyricism of Sciarrino, but the rich and colourful soundworld is all his own. Be the first to hear UK premieres of two of Beat Furrer’s best-loved works, including Nuun, a near-perfect example of his expressive powers and broad influences.

London Sinfonietta continues to nurture the finest new talent, and this concert also features a world premiere from emerging young British composer Naomi Pinnock who has been mentored in the creation of this piece by Beat Furrer himself.

Don’t miss this rare chance to hear one of Austria’s most striking contemporary sounds performed by a world-leading orchestra.
