More Than Mahler – Celebrating Gustav Mahler (1860–1911)

The year 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of Mahler’s birth and 2011 the 100th anniversary
of his death. During these two years this groundbreaking composer will be celebrated worldwide. The ACF London will contribute to these celebrations by hosting events in house and in collaboration with cultural institutions throughout the country such as the Gustav Mahler Society and the BBC Philharmonic. SOUNDINGS the ACF’s platform for contemporary music will in May 2010 be ‘Inspired by Mahler’. In May and June 2010 Brendan Carroll with Oliver Davies will curate and present a series of concerts devoted to Mahler and his World.
BBC Philharmonic: Mahler Concerts

HK ‘Nali’ Gruber, the renowned Austrian composer became the latest BBC Philharmonic’s Composer-Conductor in September 2009. He will make his Bridgewater Hall debut in February 2010. The BBC Philharmonic’s 2009/10 season is primarily focused on a Mahler Symphony Cycle to mark the composer’s 150th anniversary. Every Mahler concert will feature a world première by a living composer including works by the Austrians Kurt Schwertsik and Friedrich Cerha. Kurt Schwertsik’s Nachtmusiken will precede Mahler’s Symphony No.1 on Saturday 16 January; then Friedrich Cerha’s like a tragicomedy will precede Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 on Saturday 13 February. Conductors are HK Gruber and Vassily Sinaisky.
