Austro-Japanese writer Milena Michiko Flašar will present a reading of her bestselling novel I called him Necktie as well as her latest work Herr Katō spielt Familie (Mr. Katō plays family) in a sample translation. Her exquisitely minimalist narratives cross cultures and navigate big issues with subversive lightness. The bilingual event is presented in partnership with the Ingeborg Bachmann Centre (IBC) and moderated by IBC director Dr. Andrea Capovilla.
The English translation will be read by British actor Joseph Kloska (Royal Shakespeare Company; The Crown, Happy Go Luck, Peterloo).
Followed by a Q&A with the author Milena Michiko Flašar and the translators Sheila Dickie (I called him necktie) and Melanie Florence (Herr Katō spielt Familie /Mr. Katō plays family).
