International Fashion Showcase: London Fashion Week – Another Austria

  • 13 Feb 2014 — 23 Feb 2014

The great success of The British Council and The British Fashion Council’s International Fashion Showcase project is proving that London’s role in supporting and promoting international talent is unrivalled and vital in contributing to the global fashion scene. Austria is once again taking part with an exhibition of emerging designers initiated by AUSTRIANFASHION.NET in cooperation with the ACF London.  The exhibition is curated by Claudia Rosa Lukas.

The four participating designers- Femme Maison, GON, Benedikt Fischer and Matthias Winkler, have been chosen for their impressive craftsmanship, interconnecting approaches, cultures and themes.

Another Austria II is supported by Austria’s chief creative industries organisations- BMUKK , Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture, departure The Creative Agency of the City of Vienna and go international.

Participating Designers:

Matthias Winkler is an artist who is anything but one-dimensional. With a background of fine art and painting, as well as menswear and footwear design from the renowned Royal College of Art in London, Matthias has been collecting knowledge and experiences which would eventually lead him to his calling. His footwear pieces are true individuals, firmly grounded in modernity and adapted for a contemporary wearer. Sophisticated beyond perfection, his designs reflect a post-apocalyptic image with a positive note, focusing on raw materials and urban concepts.

FEMME MAISON
Founded in the year 2009, the label Femme Maison is the brainchild of Franziska Fuerpass, who established the brand after her graduation from the Angewandte, University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Joining forces with Sia Kermanni’s branding and artistic experience, Franziska has developed a label with a loyal following, attracted to the fresh take on fashion design. The sleek and modern lines of Femme Maison collections, underscored by rich conceptual thinking and masterful layering, are what infuse the design pieces with a romantic nostalgia interpreted and placed into a very much contemporary frame.

Benedikt Fischer takes his art seriously, approaching the creative process from many different sides, all enveloped by a wide cultural and historical context. His foray into jewellery design has secured him a spot amongst the brightest shining young stars of the field, allowing him to exhibit all over the world. His innate attention to detail even in sturdy pieces uncovers his delicate feeling and touch, while the bulkiness and strength of his jewellery creates a protective and strong presence.

GON
Christina Steiner, GON’s creative director, has been trained at the Angewandte, University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and ever since the founding of the label has continuously been awarded fashion design awards and praises from the professionals and the public. Her interdisciplinary approach to design, conducted through rigorous research into diverse areas of the sciences and arts, is a source of inspiration for Christina, resulting in graphic patterns, bold colours and unlikely shapes.  None of GON’s collections are ever the same, constantly evolving with its natural surroundings and the creative spirit of their designer.
