The Hannes Riepler Quartet is an exciting project uniting the rising stars of the London jazz scene with New York sax legend Chris Cheek. The four musicians first played together at a Vortex Downstairs Jazz Night. The energy and chemistry between the four musicians was so natural it led to a European tour and recording in 2015.

This evening marks launch of Austrian-born guitarist Riepler’s much awaited second album Wild Life, released on UK-based record label Jellymould Jazz. The compositions are Riepler’s direct response to his surroundings living in East London, feeding off the rich multi-cultural, bustling energy that is present on the everyday streets of Dalston. Hannes is a composer that is interested in form. Deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, with an open ear to many other genres the compositions enable the group to freely expand on his musical ideas. The album also features one track by Chris Cheek and the final track is a cover by American singer-songwriter Beck.

Wild Life is a body of work that deserves to be listened to. This is not ‘fast-food’ music. It is a collection of compositions that have been crafted, worked on both during the writing process and in the studio and the interplay between all four musicians is first class.
