Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas, a featured composer at this year’s Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, is presented in several concerts. The London Sinfonietta will premiere in vain, a work hailed by Sir Simon Rattle as one of the undisputed new music masterpieces of the 21st century. The concert-length work was composed in the wake of the rise of Austria’s right-wing Freedom Party and uses changes from light to darkness to complement a tormented microtonal soundscape.
