Spiegelspiel was newly composed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of the Austrian First World War poet Georg Trakl who died only months into the conflict. A visionary and expressionist poet, Trakl was regarded as a true outsider, and his verse in these new translations by Peter Watson has been set to music by composer Louis Mander, searching to illuminate the inner and outer existence of this deeply troubled poetic genius.
