Little is known about female composers in Austria at the beginning of the 20th century. Up to now many of them are passed on at the fringes of biographies about their husbands, lovers, teachers or pupils. Irene Suchy, Austrian musicologist and radio editor, will present the lives and works of female composers, reconstructing their ways to gain publicity, to be accepted by publishers and concert organisers.
The lecture will be accompanied by a short performance by Oliver Davies of works by these composers alongside their male contemporaries. Join us to hear pieces by Johanna Müller-Hermann, Mathilde Kralik von Meyrswalden, and Nancy van de Vate.
