To celebrate the centenary of Fritz Lang's Die Nibelungen, CineClub is delighted to screen both parts: Die Nibelungen - Siegried and Die Nibelungen - Kriemhilds Rache (Kriemhild's revenge) in this beautifully restored version from the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Stiftug and with a new recording of Gottfried Huppertz's original score.

Shot between 1922 and 1924 Die Nibelungen are truly epic in scale and ambition. Until then unseen technical innovation and achievements contribute to the integrity of style and story. Thea von Harbou's script seeks inspiration from the nordic saga (believed to be dated around 1200AD) rather than from the popular Wagner opera of the same title. Set designs and costumes are magnificent and unwavering modern.

Although less known than METROPOLIS this is possibly Fritz Lang's unsung masterpiece from his early career – presented to you in 12 corals.
