Graham Johnson once more directs the School’s autumn song recital series, which this year focuses on song cycles. Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte is usually cited as the first cycle for voice and piano and since then composers have used the form to unite poems that form a narrative, or share a common theme or poet. Professor Johnson directs and introduces senior singers and pianists in some of the most well known cycles - Schubert, Schumann and a short Tour de France (Fauré, Debussy, Poulenc) - presented in three special concerts.
