Yodelling takes on a different quality when freed from the touristic stereotype. It shakes off the picturesque or burlesque and becomes something authentic and original. Seen in this way, yodelling is a vocal art form which performs much the same function as flamenco for the Spanish and yoik for the Sami. The Muthspiel family has nurtured the yodel, which their father collected, publicised, composed and performed complete with choruses. And now his son is presenting yodelling in a whole new context.
