Roger O’Donnell (The Cure)’s collaboration with Adam Donen, inspired by author Thomas Bernhard, is the centrepiece of a programme exploring ‘translations’ from literature to music. Rich in contrasts and highly emotional, the 55-minute Bernhard Suite depicts the struggle to reassert a harmonious, lyrical language over a ‘broken’ world. Following a celebrated German premiere, it is performed by the world-renowned Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn on their first UK visit.
Celebrated Russian soloist Anna Zassimova performs stirring piano works and is joined by legendary four-octave countertenor Ernesto Tomasini to present Donen’s Lorca Songs, and by Lore Lixenberg to explore Spengler’s hauntingly delicate interpretation of French symbolist poet Mallarmé.
