ACF Translation Prize Award Ceremony

  • Wed 28 Nov 2018
  • 7:00PM

For the second ACF Translation Prize entrants were invited to choose and translate into English a text by a contemporary Austrian writer. This year we offer one award for professional translators and one for aspiring translators. With a large number of very engaging submissions in each category it was a difficult decision, but we are pleased to announce the winners: Sebastian Smallshaw (professional) and Johannes Weinkirn (aspiring). Join us for the award ceremony, where there will be readings from both translations, a panel discussion and musical performances.

 Programme:

7pm: Opening, readings and award ceremony

Live reading by winner Sebastian Smallshaw and screening of a prerecorded excerpt by Johannes Weinkirn.

7.45.pm: Panel discussion with Jamie Bulloch (translator), Anna Kelly (Commissioning Editor 4th Estate) and Tina Hartas (Founder TripFiction)
With Anna Kelly, commissioning editor at 4th Estate, and Tina Hartas, founder of the TripFiction web site, we will be focusing on the challenges to publishing literature in translation, from commissioning through to marketing, and also on how the internet and social media can be harnessed most effectively to publicise foreign writers.

Accompanied by acclaimed Jazz musicians Hamish Balfour & Guido Spannocchi
