ACF 60th Anniversary Open House Weekend

To celebrate our 60th anniversary the ACF London opens its doors for a special weekend of performances and events. We invite you to enjoy a series of anniversary commissions including artworks, film, concerts and literature which reflect on the ACF’s history and cultural programme throughout the last six decades. We will also be hosting a pop-up café run by the madly delicious Viennese Guerilla Bakery.

FRIDAY

Out of the Box
7 – 11pm
We kick off our celebrations for the Anniversary Weekend with the opening of the exhibition Out of the Box. Vienna-based art consultancy section.a have been invited to curate an exhibition to celebrate the ACF’s 60th anniversary. They will also present a special edition of their Parabol Art Magazine entitled The Out of the Box Issue at the opening.

Animation by Kris Hofmann
Ongoing
Filmmaker Kris Hofmann has been commissioned to produce a special mixed media animation celebrating the multifaceted image of the ACF as a cultural hub. The animation will be on view as part of the Out of the Box exhibition.

SATURDAY

Austrian Shorts
2pm
The ACF Cineclub will screen a special short film selection alongside the Austrian Film Season at Regent Street Cinema.

Variations on a Theme (Special Edition)

The ACF’s translator in residence Jen Calleja has commissioned new work from a group of the most interesting and dynamic Austrian and British creative practitioners working across the disciplines of writing, translation, art and music today.

Artist Talk
6pm
Exhibition artists will be joined by the curators Katharina Boesch and Andreas Krištof (section.a, Vienna) to discuss
their practice and artistic approaches to the 60th anniversary of the ACF London.

Rutland Reverb
7.30pm
This concert brings together three of the most successful and prolific contemporary Austrian musicians living and working in London for a unique collaboration to compose and perform a special piece, inspired by the musical legacy of the ACF. Aram Zarikian (drummer, sound designer and composer), Daniel Rico (pianist, drummer and composer) and Robert Rotifer (singer, songwriter and guitarist) wil be joined by British singer Andreya Triana.

SUNDAY

Children’s Music Workshop
2 pm
Musician and pedagogue Daniel Rico will lead children (5 – 10 year olds) on an exciting musical journey.

Exhibition Tour & Artist Talk
2pm
While the kids are making music parents and other visitors are invited to join curators Katharina Boesch and Andreas Krištof (section.a, Vienna) and the participating artists on a tour of the exhibition, examining the curatorial concept as well as the different artistic approaches.

Ensemble Émigré
4pm
The concert celebrates
the contribution of Austrian émigrés, especially musicians and composers to the ACF’s programme and the wider UK cultural landscape. The programme will feature vocal and instrumental music by Ernst Toch, Hans Gál, Robert Kahn and Peter Gellhorn as well as arrangements
of Folk Songs by Ferdinand Rauter.

Musarc & Manu Delago
6pm
One of the musical highlights of our Open Weekend will be a collaboration between Musarc and Austrian Hang player Manu Delago.
