This concert celebrates two internationally acclaimed composers of New Music: Friedrich Cerha and Luke Bedford who are honoured by this year’s ‘Ernst von Siemens Music Prize.
Born in Vienna in 1926, Cerha achieved international notoriety for his version of the third act of Alban Berg’s Lulu. The creative force and inventive curiosity of this master are unbridled. Luke Bedford is known to the public and audiences of the ACF from his long standing participation in the Soundings series. Having obtained many national distinctions he is currently the first ever composer in residence at London’s Wigmore Hall.
This concert at the ACF, featuring Austrian pianist Stefan Stroissnig and his piano trio from the Royal College of Music, is a rare occasion to explore Cerha’s impressive sonic landscapes in London together with Bedford’s most recent compositions whilst engaging in a vivid discussion with Luke Bedford and Jonathan Irons (Universal Edition).
