After its critically acclaimed premiere at VAULT Festival, a transfer to Greenwich Theatre and a sold-out UK and Ireland tour, “The Good Women” returns to London with a preview at the Austrian Cultural Forum in April.

“The Good Women” is a funny, heart-felt and original play written, performed and directed by a team of Austrian, British and Irish creatives. It tells a queer love story set against the historical backdrop of the Swiss suffragette movement of the 1960s – inspired by two real women and a cookbook.

It is the second collaboration between Austrian actor Lena Liedl, Northern-Irish actor Faith McCune and director Sophie Marsden, who all met at East 15 Acting School. Installation and textile artist Chloé Rochefort joins as set and costume designer.

Welcome to Zürich 1967. While elsewhere hippies celebrate free love and protesters take the streets, Swiss women still don't even have the vote.

And then there are Bette and Trudy: Bette is the host of a popular TV cooking show and has settled for a life predictable solitude and regional TV stardom. Trudy is a housewife with an obsession for Bette's TV show and a mild alcohol problem. When they run into each other, they question their life choices, politics, sexualities and what it means to be "a good woman" in a society that denies them the most basic human rights.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll meet two extraordinary women.

"The poignant two-hander depicts burgeoning love against a backdrop of political struggle. Simply staged, the romcom plot balances witty humour, social injustice & emancipation" - Fringe Biscuit

"The Good Women is a play on a fringe and festival scale which thinks big. It tells a nuanced story against a historic backdrop. The story and characters have room to breathe and develop."- Salterton Arts Review

"The two characters are very effectively played. It is an encouragement to continue the fight for change."- British Theatre Guide
