Tune in to an exclusive conversation with Barbi Marković, a critically acclaimed Vienna based author from Belgrade. In this virtual encounter, Marković speaks about how translations affect and change books, as well as her own working practices as a writer.

She also gives a close insight into her latest novel 'Superheldinnen', which received the Alpha Literature Prize 2016 and the Adelbert-von-Chamisso Prize in 2018.

This reading is part of the renowned Austrian literature programme 'schreibART'.


Barbi Marković, born 1980 in Belgrade, studied German literature in Vienna and Belgrade. She has been living in Vienna since 2009, in 2011/2012 she was Writer of the City of Graz, a literary residency that resulted in "Graz Alexanderplatz".

In 2009 she entered the German literary scene with 'Ausgehen', a remix novel of Thomas Bernhard's story 'Gehen'. The author has followed up with short stories, plays, and audio plays and has received several prizes and grants.


This is a cooperation between the Austrian Literature Society & the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.
