Craft of Film: Amour Fou

Have you ever wondered why a film looks, sounds, makes you feel the way it does?

The Barbican presents a programme highlighting nine cinematic crafts that are key to a film’s success – from directing to acting to cinematography – with a week of outstanding European films, and extended ScreenTalks and masterclasses, to shine a light on the extraordinary skills and teamwork needed to bring a motion picture to the screen.

During these events, film experts talk about their craft, giving us a deeper understanding into how their particular skill goes into making the finished film and what effect this has on us as the audience.

One of the selected films is Amour Fou, Austrian filmaker Jessica Hausner’s take on the romance between poet and playwright Heinrich von Kleist and Henriette Vogel in 1812. The film features perfectly matched costumes and interiors of the Prussian upper class. Costume designer Tanja Hausner will take part in a talk following the screening.
