On the occasion of the Austrian National Day 2020, we are delighted to share with you all four touring groups of the acclaimed Vienna Boys Choir presenting a virtual programme of festive, cheerful, and uplifting music from Austria. The concert is filmed in the baroque state rooms of Augartenpalais, the Choir's home in Vienna. The 100 boys are often referred to as the "singing ambassadors“ of Austria - it is rare to see them all perform at a single concert.
The unique programme presents not only some of the most beautiful folk songs from Austrian provinces but also pieces by Franz Schubert, the most famous alumnus of the choir as well as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
A concert from Austria would not be complete without music by the Strauss family. The Choir performs Radetzkymarsch by Johann Strauss père and probably the best-loved piece by his son the waltz king, the Blue Danube waltz.
The concert finishes with a rousing rendition of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, as a tribute to friendship and understanding between people, and indeed peoples.
