The renowned Britten Sinfonia will be joined by the ZRI Quintet for a special concert at London's Milton Court, focussing on 19th-century Vienna as a creative cultural melting pot.
ZRI Quintet takes its name from the legendary 19th-century Vienna tavern, Zum Roten Igel, which hosted amazing performances by Hungarian and Romani folk bands. Schubert lived around the corner and was a regular visitor, while Brahms refused to dine anywhere else when he was in Vienna.
Together, they will recreate the atmosphere of the tavern, with folk-inspired music by Schubert, Brahms, Beethoven and Haydn performed with the folk elements made clearer, and traditional Hungarian and Romani folk pieces played by orchestra and folk band.
