Composer, writer, teacher, theorist, painter, inventor, leading figure of the Second Viennese School, pioneer of twelve-tone music, trailblazer of modernism - Arnold Schönberg's work opened up new frontiers for his contemporaries. His music as well as his artistic values remain relevant today.
On the occasion of what would have been Schönberg's 150th year we invite you to a unique and specially commissioned exhibition exploring the composer's life, work and his relationship to London. Curated and designed by the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna, this exhibition brings the composer into sharper focus.
Arnold Schönberg was born on 13 September 1874 and died on 13 July 1951 in Los Angeles. This exhibition gives viewers insight into his life in Vienna, Berlin and later in Los Angeles as well as his important artistic connection to London. Artworks are presented alongside historical texts and musical scores and we are thrilled to have reproductions of some very special artefacts from Schönberg's multifaceted estate preserved at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna.
Join us for a special exhibition opening & concert on Thursday 12 September 2024, 7pm. Please book your free ticket for this event HERE.
