You Only Live Once is a 1937 American crime drama film directed by Austrian-born auteur Fritz Lang and starring Sylvia Sidney and Henry Fonda. We are pleased to screen the film in conjunction with the UK premiere of Alexander Horwath's monumental essay-film Henry Fonda for President that proposes a history of the United States through the prism of the life and career of actor Henry Fonda.

Joan, played by Sidney, is the secretary to the public defender in a large city and in love with a career criminal named Eddie. She believes that he is basically good person who just had some tough breaks. After she uses her influence to get him released early, they get married and he attempts to go straight. His past comes knocking at their door, and the couple is forced to go on the run.
