The second film in our February celebration of LGTBQIA+ stories in film CineClub presents the 2020 film Why Not You (original title Hochwald) by Evi Romen.

Known by everybody in his small village, the sensitive Mario loves to dance. Somewhat tolerated by his fellow villagers, his true ally is his father. When Mario meets his childhood friend Lenz again, old memories and longings awake.

Why Not You, set in a fictional South Tyrolian village, could be described as a modern day Heimatfilm in that it follows the protagonist as he tries to escape the expectations of his village.

The film recently won the main award „Bester Spielfilm 2021“ at the Diagonale Film Festival as well as another three Austrian Filmprizes (österreichische Filmpreise) in the same year.
