Part of this years London Jazz Festival
Flur is the meeting of Austrian-Ethiopian harpist Miriam Adefris, British saxophonist Isaac Robertson, and percussionist Dillon Harrison. The trio have played in various formations over the past few years and collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Ganavya, Floating Points, Gal Go, Shabaka Hutchings. Drawing on contemporary classical, free jazz, and ambient influences - think Alice Coltrane, Ambrose Akinmusire, Kaija Saariaho, Azimuth, and Angel Bat Dawid - the trio’s instrumentation creates a sound that is both expansive and intimate.
Their debut album, Plunge, release in September on Latency, follows the Paris-based record label's acclaimed releases with Nidia & Valentina, Emahoy Tsege-Mariam Gebru, goat (jp), Tarta Relena, and Moritz Von Oswald, expanding their commitment to boundary-pushing...
Rosie Turton and Miryam Solomon present their new duo album maar; an exploratory conversation between voice, modular synthesizer and trombone. Contemplative, textural, and at times fragile, it leans into the ambivalence of sense making; a space of searching, resolving, unraveling, and finding each other again.
The project began by chance at the end of a recording session in 2024 at Lightship 95 studio. With 20 minutes to spare, the two decided to use the remainder of the session to experiment with freely improvising with the voice and trombone. More moments like these continued at Rosie's home studio, this time incorporating Rosie's modular synthesizer, and from these sessions emerged 'maar'; a space where the two trace new landscapes together.
Miryam Solomon is a London-based vocalist, by way of Sweden and Eritrea. Her work is underpinned by her love for interlocking rhythms, vocal interplay and storytelling. As an artist, performer and collaborator, her work spans a wide range of projects and releases across folk, jazz and vocal improvisation.
Rosie Turton is a trombonist, modular synthesist, composer, and producer making waves on the UK jazz scene. Named 'One To Watch' by The Guardian and nominated for Jazz FM's 'Breakthrough Act of the Year', she blends meditative soundscapes with acoustic and electronic elements.
