Sonorities Festival: – Total Absorption

  • Sat 26 Nov 2016
  • 7:00PM

Queens University Belfast's Sonorities Festival has long since been an annual staple for contemporary music enthusiasts in Belfast and beyond. This year The Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble, a contemporary music group from Belfast, have invited composer Piers Hellawell to curate a programme for them. Hellawell has for several years played a key role in the ACF's contemporary music platform Soundings. This is where he was first introduced to the music of Daniel Moser, an Austrian composer whose work will be performed as part of this concert: www.danielolivermoser.com.

The concert features work by composers from around the world. According to Hellawell, the programme 'disdains questions of stylistic fashion in favour of celebrating the diversity of good work that goes on all over the place. The intensity of Poul Ruders (Denmark) or Daniel Moser (Austria) is just as individual as, but no more correct than, the hard-core energy of Perry Goldstein (USA) and Kevin Volans (SA), or the virtuosic parody techniques of English composers Camden Reeves and Joanna Lee. There should be something here for anyone with open ears.’

This concert will be performed in The Harty Room, School of Creative Arts, Queens University, Belfast
