This documentary tackles the complex history and personal experience of the expulsion of the German population from Czechoslovakia after WWII. Filmmaker Simon Wieland accompanies a group of survivors, children at the time of the expulsion, back to the towns and villages of their birth. In their own words they recall the experience and trauma of what became known as the ‘Brünner Todesmarch’ (Brno death march) from the town of Brno across the border to Austria.
Historian Martin Brown (Richmond University) will give a short historical introduction prior to the screening. Together with the filmmaker he will also be available for questions following the film.
The screening and introduction have been arranged in cooperation with the Czech Centre London.
