In summer and autumn of this year thousands of refugees passed the Austrian border, many of them fleeing the war in Syria. This has led to an outpouring of support from the public as well as from national and private institutions. The ACF London will show two films, Lampedusa in Winter and Time of the Wolf, that explore themes of belonging and the limits of compassion.
The Italian ‘refugee island’ of Lampedusa is in the firm grip of winter’s tristesse. Tourists have left while the remaining refugees fight to be taken to the mainland. Jakob Brossmann’s film is a vivid portrait of a tiny island obliged by virtue of its position on the southernmost edge of Europe to confront issues which the rest of the continent attempts to avoid.
The film was just awarded the prize for Best Documentary at this year's Viennale (Vienna Film Festival). Read the article in Der Standard here.
This is a special private screening for ACF guests. Book below!
